I live in the woodlands of northwest Wisconsin and work in a studio in the city. My life is a web of connections, an exploration into the riddles of rhythm. By choice I live a low-impact lifestyle... firewood for heat, water carried from a nearby well into my renovated caboose home. The forest is my soul fuel. This heart beat of the earth is a vital plexus of threads. Weaving cloth, stitching, and knitting are my metaphors for building a balanced relationship between all my worlds.

My work comes from an intuitive place. My process is a dance... following the seed of an idea on its journey through dreams and the mind and the body until it emerges from my hands.

Color and texture intrigue me... the feel of the fiber on my fingers and the infinite possibilities of combining individual strands of simple cotton or luxurious silk to make cloth. Cloth then cut, sewn, appliqued, embellished... manipulated by human hands with motions ancient as time... infused with energy. The resulting object ready to adorn a body, to serve as a catalyst of expression.

I've been knitting since my 4th birthday and weaving for almost as long. My first weaving project as a child became a taschli - a small purse - that carried my lunch and treasures found while walking to school in the Swiss mountain village where I lived.

My repertoire today includes felted pocket bags, day bags with knit pockets, gratitude bags... knit sweaters... and my newest work: the reconstructed series, which takes loved-enough pieces and transforms them to wings, wraps or scarves.

Each piece starts out as strands of yarn and, just like our lives, changes and grows, bit by bit, until the story is almost complete. Now it's up to you... to fill the bag, wear the sweater, or drape the wrap... and open to the next chapter.
